Youth Ambassadors Unite in Mallorca for the first Balearic Islands Camp

Inspired by the model of volunteer camps, IBJOVE, in collaboration with Capdepera City Council, organised the 1st Balearic Islands Youth Ambassadors Camp. The initiative aimed to create a space that combined training and leisure activities, fostering reflection, the exchange of experiences, and networking among participants.

The camp was held in Capdepera (Mallorca) from 2 to 13 July, bringing together 17 youth ambassadors from different regions of Spain: 9 from the Balearic Islands, 1 from Murcia, 5 from Madrid, and 3 from Catalonia.

The camp pursued three main objectives:

  • To analyse the work of youth ambassadors and gather their opinions and proposals for improvement.

  • To strengthen their involvement in the production, dissemination, and evaluation of youth information.

  • To provide a broader perspective on the programme, thanks to the participation of young people from other Spanish regions who could share different realities and approaches to youth ambassador initiatives.

The programme combined educational and recreational activities. Training sessions included podcast creation, the safe use of generative AI, and a Fake News Escape Room, alongside exhibitions of participants’ work and panel discussions. The leisure component featured environmental volunteering, visits to Palma and nearby towns, sea-based activities, and evening events. Many of these were self-managed by the group, further enhancing their sense of ownership and collaboration.

The success of the camp was reflected both in the final group project—collecting numerous proposals for improvement, training, and new activities for IBJOVE—and in the highly positive evaluations from participants.
