EYID 2024 - “It’s not the talk but the walk that matters most”

As every year, the EYID will take place on 17 April 2024. This year, the European Youth Information Day will focus on democracy and the importance of voting. With significant elections happening worldwide in 2024, including the European elections in June, where 400 million citizens will vote, we aim to highlight the impact of individual choices on the global stage.

The goal is to inspire young people to recognise their role in collective decision-making, supporting critical thinking and celebrating diverse voices. By embracing democracy, we aim to empower future generations to be informed and engaged, ready to exercise their democratic power responsibly.

For this occasion, we have planned to organise three activities:

First, through DemoFacts - a social media campaign - we will explore some of the most intriguing and unconventional facts about democracy in Europe, highlighting its significance and our essential role in safeguarding it.

On 17 April, ERYICA is set to host a webinar to emphasise the importance of youth voting and democracy. The discussion will dive into how youth information can bridge knowledge gaps in democratic processes for young individuals.

The webinar will explore various aspects, including the boundaries of youth information regarding informing young people on current affairs and politics. The event will feature diverse speakers, including international relations experts, journalists, and youth workers. Their varied backgrounds will bring different perspectives to the conversation, highlighting the role of young people in European democracy.

With MythBusters, the third activity, we will provide young people with tools to spot fake news. In the initial stage, we will concentrate on providing them with the skills to recognise and counter disinformation, aiming to enhance democracy's resilience through well-informed citizen engagement. In the second phase, the acquired knowledge will be put into practice. Participants will identify whether the presented information is true or false, displayed in a carousel format.

As every year, ERYICA will provide the materials and its templates so you can translate them into your languages. More info will come in the upcoming weeks!
