EURES TMS Empowerment and guidance workshops in Italy
Since May, Eurodesk Italy has implemented a series of empowerment and guidance workshops aimed at young people seeking to gain professional experience in Europe.
The workshops are one of the activities of the EURES TMS project, coordinated by the Italian Ministry of Labour and Social Policies – EURES NCO (IT), and funded by the European Commission under the Employment and Social Innovation (EaSI) component of the European Social Fund Plus (ESF+). The aim of the project is to promote sustainable and high-quality employment, combat social exclusion and poverty, and improve working conditions.
The workshops aim to provide participants with the skills, resources, and support necessary to embark on a professional career abroad, improving their employability and promoting a profitable and satisfying job placement process. Through a mix of theoretical training, practical advice, and interactive activities, the workshops help participants become more confident and prepared to take advantage of European mobility opportunities.
The idea behind these workshops stems from a research conducted in 2021 by Eurodesk Italy in collaboration with the University of Cagliari, titled “Survey on the obstacles to transnational mobility,” which revealed that the main challenge for many young job seekers, including NEETs, is not the lack of mobility opportunities or information, but rather a challenge related to psychological aspects of the individual. What they lack is confidence: fear of failure, uncertainty about their own skills, and sometimes limiting beliefs like "mobility is not for me."
The workshops involve approximately 30 participants, with a particular focus on the 18–35 age group and are organised by the Eurodesk Italy National Coordination Office, with the support of Eurodesk local centres in Italy and the EURES network.
The project has fostered a new synergy: the direct collaboration between the Eurodesk network – specialised in youth information – and the Public Employment Services within the broader EURES framework.
This is an important result and a significant step towards a more connected and people-focused system to support youth mobility.
To date, eight workshops have been organised in 5 Italian regions, involving a total of 240 participants aged between 18 and 35.
