Youth Information Recognised by the Council of the European Union

The role of youth information in promoting young people’s democratic engagement has been recognised by the Council of the European Union, in the Conclusions of the Council of 20 November 2020. The document on Fostering democratic awareness and democratic engagement among young people in Europe confirms the commitment of the European Union and the ministers of the Member States towards recognising youth information providers as promoters of democratic values and active participation.

The conclusions invite the Member States to involve youth information providers in the promotion of active and democratic participation and recognise the importance of providing youth-friendly information to all young people in this matter too. The document specifies that “appropriate communication strategies should be developed in cooperation with youth information networks and other stakeholders of the youth sector, such as the European Youth Information and Counselling Agency and the Eurodesk network, at European level” in the field of democratic awareness and democratic engagement.

ERYICA welcomes these statements of the Council. Both ERYICA and our Member Organisations are relevant and open partners in the cooperation envisaged by this document. We firmly believe that any such action and collaboration will be for the benefit of young people in Europe.
