Empowering Teachers and Youth in Slovakia: The NIVaM Initiative

The National Institute of Education and Youth (NIVaM) was established on 1 July 2022 by merging five organisations under the Ministry of Education. The goal is better availability and addressability of help to teachers, improvement of the educational offer or strengthening of expertise for more modern education—unification and functionalisation of organisations that belong to the department. Under one roof, there are organisations whose functioning is close to each other and devoted to areas such as training teachers, changes in the content of education, working with youth or standardised testing.

NIVaM educates teaching and non-teaching staff, advises them, methodically guides schools and school facilities, and applies pedagogical research. Its activities include

  • The organisation of subject olympiads and competitions.

  • Provision of external testing at schools.

  • Informal youth education and management of the library fund.

NIVaM also cooperates with other partners who provide educational services to children, pupils, youth and adults.
