Standing up for the Recognition of Youth Work in Cyprus

The Youth Board of Cyprus and the Foundation for the Management of European Lifelong Learning Programmes, successfully organised the national conference titled “Developments and Steps Forward for the Recognition of Youth Work”, held on 28 November 2025 in Nicosia, with the support of the Ministry of Education, Sport and Youth, the National Youth Council and the Cyprus Youth Clubs Organisation.

The event brought together key policymakers from Cyprus and abroad, youth workers, non-governmental organizations, private and educational institutions and young people engaged in youth work activities, creating a dynamic forum for dialogue, exchange of ideas, and dissemination of good practices.

Throughout the conference, participants explored the evolving landscape of youth work at both national and European levels. The discussions highlighted the significant impact of Youth Work on society, emphasizing its contribution to social cohesion, youth empowerment, and the holistic development of young people. Speakers and panellists also underlined the urgent need for political, formal recognition and institutional support of youth workers in Cyprus.

A series of thematic panels and interactive discussions examined current developments, upcoming steps towards the professionalisation of youth work, and broader opportunities for collaboration among public institutions, practitioners, and youth-led initiatives. The conference constitutes part of the ongoing national effort led by the Working Group on Youth Work in Cyprus, which aims to establish a coherent framework for acknowledging and strengthening the field.

The event concluded with a networking lunch and a Youth Work Fair, where participants engaged in hands-on activities, showcased innovative practices, and explored opportunities for future partnerships.
