Encouraging young people to return to Estonia’s teeviit.ee portal
At the beginning of 2026, the national youth information service managed by the Education and Youth Board of Estonia (Harno) joined the Service Design Development Programme. The aim was to find ways to increase the number of returning visitors to the Teeviit youth information portal and improve the overall user experience.
Teeviit has many visitors. Young people find the portal through search engines, AI-based tools, social media and by visiting the website directly. One of the main challenges, however, is that many young people come to Teeviit to find specific information but do not stay on the portal for long or return later.
As a significant number of users find Teeviit through search engines and AI tools, the development work also focuses on making the content easier to find and improving search engine optimisation (SEO). At the same time, service design is being used to make the portal more engaging and to help young people discover new topics. The aim is that, in addition to finding the information they were looking for, young people will also notice other topics that are relevant to them and have a reason to visit Teeviit again.
As part of the development programme, interviews were conducted with young people to better understand their user journey and expectations. Harno’s work on developing youth information services is also supported by the service design toolkit “DesYign”, created as part of ERYICA’s MeDYIa project.
In addition, Teeviit began conducting user surveys in 2026 to gather feedback to further develop the portal’s content and technical solutions. The knowledge and feedback gained from the development programme and user surveys will be used from 2027 onwards to make Teeviit more attractive and user-friendly on both desktop and mobile devices, while encouraging more young people to return to the portal.
