More young people have their say on local issues by using Young Scot’s new e-voting site - UK

The new e-voting site will allow young people to easily participate in local democracy by using the unique number on their free Young Scot National Entitlement Cards (Young Scot NEC).

Young people in Scotland can use the new site to have a say in their communities – helping to allocate local resources and ensure that young people play an active role in local decision-making. This includes getting young people’s opinions about local community projects or voting on how a local sports club budget is spent.

Known for providing under-years with free bus travel and legal proof of age, the Young Scot NEC is also a gateway to local democracy. The e-voting site will also be used by 28 of Scotland’s 32 council areas as young people take to the polls to vote for their preferred candidate in the Scottish Youth Parliament elections. The Scottish Youth Parliament (SYP) is the democratically elected voice of Scotland’s young people. Around 160 young people aged 14 – 25 are elected every two years to represent every part of Scotland and campaign for positive change.

The latest version of Young Scot’s participatory budget voting website is not restricted to specific geographic areas. It can also run votes based on thematic constituencies, school catchment areas and parliamentary boundaries.
