First European MIL Week in process!
The European Commission is launching its first European Media Literacy week, which will take place from 18-22 March 2019! Are you organising an event on Media Literacy at local level? Share it on the Commission’s Media Literacy Event repository!
There is also a call for applications for inspiring and/or impactful projects in the field of media literacy. The seven best applicants will be invited to Brussels to compete for three Media Literacy Awards during the high-level conference (see below). For more information on the awards, please consult the dedicated page on the call for applications to the Media Literacy Awards.
The purpose of the week is to underline the importance of media literacy and promote different initiatives and projects across the EU. Many events will be organised in Brussels during the week, as well as in Member States. In Brussels, the main event will be a high-level conference with the theme of Informed Citizens in the Digital Age. This will be hosted by the Commissioner for Digital Economy and Society, Mariya Gabriel and will take place on 19 March 2019. Registration is open until 15 March here.
Further events organised at EU level include meetings and workshops of the European Commission’s Media Literacy Expert Group, the European Regulators Group for Audiovisual Media Services (ERGA)and the Contact Committee of the Audiovisual Media Services Directive.
An online MIL library is also being explored as a possibility for the future.
