European Youth Information Quality Label project kick-off
In the post-truth era, where propaganda and conspiracy theories are fed by disinformation, populism, fake news, hate speech and “alternative facts”, identifying reliable, complete and unbiased information has become a real challenge for many.
In this context, the cooperation of the Council of Europe and ERYICA is focused on exploring the development of a European Youth Information Quality Label, designed for and with young people, for the next two years. The aim of this process is to help young people recognise quality information that does not require further verification, as well as to improve the quality of youth information provision.
To this end, ERYICA established a Working Group that had their first meeting in Brussels on 30-31 January at De Ambrassade. The Working Group is made up of ERYICA members MladiInfo (FYR Macedonia), Bundesnetzwerk Österreichische Jugendinfos, (Austria), Infoklick (Switzerland), De Ambrassade (Belgium), Youth Work Ireland (Ireland), and a representative from the Advisory Council on Youth of the Council of Europe. Experts of the ERYICA network and the Council of Europe’s Advisory Council on Youth launched the process of exploring the creation the label in a productive meeting.
A workshop on this initiative will take place at the ERYICA 30th General Assembly. We are also planning an open dialogue day on this topic on 12 June 2019. For more information, please contact the ERYICA Secretariat.
