Responding to the challenges and opportunities that young people face; Youth Information Centres (YIC) in Pafos, Larnaca, Nicosia and Limassol have developed and held the Students’ Empowerment and Motivation Summer Schools. The fun 2-week summer programme was tailor-madefor high school students and young people, between the ages of 14-17.

These Students’ Empowerment and Motivation Summer Schools aimed at developing the young participants’ skills/knowledge and thus contributing to their personal, social and professional development in order for them to be more efficient as students and subsequently become more active citizens in our society. In addition, it was a great opportunity to have a good time while they have increased their social skills (make new friends) and self-confidence.

80 participants had the chance to through a series of themes offered in the form of interactive workshops, games, discussions, practice, experimentation and entertainment by trained youth workers. This gave the participants the chance to develop their social skills; be creative; deal with stress and violence; play theatre; do scientific experiments and sports e.g. archery; manage time; encounter new technologies; mature their business ideas and much more. An informal visit with the Mayor of Pafos and the Pafos Municipality Youth Council was also organised by Youth Information Centre of Pafos as well as educational trips across Cyprus. At the end of the programme, participants received a certificate of attendance by the Youth Board of Cyprus and they were looking forward for the next year’s Empowerment and Motivation Summer Schools.
