On 22 September 2017, ERYICA and French-speaking members CIDJ (France), CIJ (Luxembourg) and CIDJ (Belgium) took part in a reflection day on the ‘Violent Radicalisation and Extremism of Young People Online: Prevention and Reaction’ in Brussels, Belgium.

The event brought together over 120 French and Dutch-speaking participants.

The first part of the day was dedicated to inputs from experts, all coming from different fields and with different experiences on this topic. This involved testimonies from people whose lives have been affected by violent extremism, followed by a discussion with experts, who spoke about what kind of measures their organisations are taking to help prevent violent extremism online. This included speakers from Google, Mediawijs, Unia: For Equality Against Discrimination, the Council of Europe, the European Federation of Journalists and Myria- the Belgian Federal Migration Centre.

The second part of the day offered participants the possibility to discover and test 17 tools and resources that have been created by the various organisations which attended the event. ERYICA had the opportunity to present the draft version of Liaisons, which gathered a lot of interest from participants.
