New EU Commissioner responsible for youth endorsed by the European Parliament


Iliana Ivanova (Bulgaria) has taken up the role of new EU Commissioner responsible for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education, and Youth. Previously, she was a Member of the European Court of Auditors and the European Parliament. 

A joint hearing took place at the European Parliament on 5 September involving the Industry, Research, and Energy Committee and the Culture and Education Committee. The purpose of this three-hour session was to evaluate Iliana Ivanova's qualifications to assume the role vacated by Mariya Gabriel, who stepped down as EU Commissioner on the 15 of May to serve as Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister of Bulgaria.
